- Environmental impact assessments (EIA)
-
Why RSK Group?
- RSK’s EIA experience extends throughout Europe, the former Soviet Union, the Middle East and Africa for both off- and onshore applications.
- We have the geographic presence and legislative awareness to suit any EIA requirement worldwide.
- We offer a commercial approach to mitigation of environmental impacts.
- Community and public liaison and communication skills are our forte.
- Our specialist geographic information systems (GIS) team uses cutting-edge technology to manage the complex datasets necessary for successful environmental analysis.
- We can provide extensive regulatory and application services including expert witness capabilities.
- Screening services
-
For exploration and development projects in new areas, an initial review of the environmental sensitivities is often appropriate for understanding any issues that may arise. RSK’s EIA professionals are experienced at such screening reviews and bring their understanding of our clients’ operations and of the context of future studies, surveys and EIA processes to such projects.
- Marine ecological services and surveys
-
RSK has considerable experience in designing and managing marine surveys in shallow coastal and offshore areas. This work has included baseline surveys; post-activity surveys, such as exploration well monitoring; and baseline and monitoring surveys as part of the EIA process. We normally design, manage and implement the surveys in conjunction with local specialist subcontractors to maximise the use of local expertise and ensure sufficient levels of local participation, which is often a regulatory requirement.

- EIA
-
We provide multidisciplinary EIAs managed by in-house technical specialists. Our early integration of engineering solutions aims to design out any environmental impacts at an early stage. RSK’s technical design support includes ecological mitigation design; engineering support; constraints mapping; and pre-construction regulatory approval and permitting processes; construction management and operations support; and facility closure/decommissioning or divestiture.
More information
- Decommissioning
-
RSK is experienced in oil and gas field decommissioning projects. These studies require best practicable environmental option assessments, which combine elements of all our work – waste management, carbon footprinting, and energy and environmental assessments.
- Permitting and consents support
-
Permitting affects all levels of a company’s operations and relates to many areas of regulation. Through anticipating and addressing permitting requirements early, RSK helps its clients to implement comprehensive strategies and develop mitigation plans to expedite permit acquisition and compliance.
- PON 15 and OPPC
-
RSK has considerable experience in preparing permit applications, and negotiating and obtaining consents and permits. We have excellent contacts and working relationships with the environmental management team and the inspectorate personnel at the UK Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform. A core team of RSK specialists uses the most up-to-date version of the European Oilfield Speciality Chemicals Association chemical hazard assessment and risk management (CHARM) model to understand these applications.
RSK has successfully obtained OPPC and PON 15 B, C, D and F permits on behalf of clients.
- Integrated pollution prevention and control (IPPC) and European Union Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS)
-
RSK is also one of the few companies of its kind with experience of offshore emissions monitoring. We will ensure that your IPPC and EU ETS permits set realistic emission caps; your best available technique (BAT) appraisals are robust and comprehensive; and your monitoring strategy meets regulatory requirements that are also consistent with your business objectives. We have wide experience of PPC permit applications and related services, including carbon footprinting studies, energy audits, energy-efficiency benchmarking studies and emissions-trading-related projects.
- Regulatory support
-
RSK’s staff keep up to date with legislation and issues associated with implementing new regulations so they can support clients with thorough research and understanding, maintaining a dialogue with regulators and utilising our staff combination of training, communications and technical skills.
- Corporate responsibility and communications
-
Key strengths and highlights
We focus on practical project-related issues.
We offer measurable performance goals such as project authorization time, regulatory intervention time and supply chain compliance.
We employ over 40 communications experts, including writers, journalists, graphics designers and multi-media artists/developers.
- Stakeholder engagement
-
A company’s reputation can be damaged when public stakeholders and non-governmental organisations feel that their interests have not been addressed during corporate development programmes. These risks can outweigh a project’s technical risks and need to be identified early during strategic planning. Our management professionals work with client’s project management and business planning teams to evaluate project-related risks and to plan communication and mitigation strategies.
- Communications and public liaison
-
We offer a combination of technical and creative capabilities and can improve the quality and clarity of our clients’ communications to a wide range of stakeholders including the financial markets, businesses and local communities.
