Surveyors
All our lead surveyors have the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) P402 surveying qualification as a minimum. They have also successfully completed the RSK internal training programme, which typically entails asbestos surveying as an assistant for at least 12 months before becoming qualified.
Analysts
All our analysts hold the appropriate BOHS qualifications, P401 for the analysis of bulk asbestos samples, P403 for fibre counting, and P404 for asbestos clearance testing. Our analysts have successfully completed the RSK internal training programme, which again typically entails the analysts working under the supervision of a qualified and experienced asbestos analyst for at least 12 months.
As part of our UKAS accreditation we are required to routinely assess the competence of our staff through the application of laboratory, office, and on-site audits and testing. In addition, we participate in the external quality schemes for bulk asbestos analysis (AIMS) and fibre.
Why is UKAS accreditation important?
UKAS, the United Kingdom Accreditation Service, is the sole accreditation body recognised by the UK government to assess the organisations providing certification, testing, calibration and inspection services.
In order to obtain and maintain accreditation, these organisations have to demonstrate their competence and experience in carrying out the stated service. They must have a robust quality management system, training and assessment programme, and must conduct ongoing checks and audits. UKAS assessors visit the organisation on a regular basis to assess the sufficiency of these measures.
The attached pdf document published by UKAS outlines the benefits of using a UKAS-accredited company for carrying out asbestos surveys. UKAS accreditation is mandatory for conducting air monitoring, clearance testing and bulk analysis of all asbestos samples.
