Sustainable drainage
The concepts of 'source control' and 'sustainable drainage' are being heavily promoted by the Environment Agency and planners. RSK’s unique service provides expertise in drainage, flood risk, landscaping, ecology and soil investigation.

RSK can supply a range of services, including a review of existing hydrological and hydrogeological situation, obtaining Section 104 and EA approvals and carrying out Environmental Impact Assessments. Based on information gleaned from these studies, RSK takes the project from conceptual design through to detailed design and technical approval.

Our services include:

  • Preliminary or scoping studies, which may be undertaken prior to a comprehensive assessment
  • Consultation with the EA and other relevant operating authorities to determine what information is already available on flood-risk and drainage issues potentially affecting or affected by the site and proposed development
  • Determination of geotechnical and ecological features in order to tailor the site requirements to better replicate and restore the natural hydrological regime of the site in its context
  • Development of site-specific sustainable drainage solutions based on current best practice that suit not only the drainage requirements but also the landscaping, ecological and public amenity needs of the development
  • Provision of operational management advice on the long-term management of any sustainable drainage system, incorporating the soft landscape features as well as the hard engineering features
  • Design and build of reed-bed treatment solutions to match water quality and
    wetland requirements.

SuDS can:

  • Minimise pollution
  • Control flooding
  • Recharge groundwater
  • Achieve greenfield run-off flows
  • Provide public amenity
  • Enhance the environmental aspect of the development
