We are one of the few companies that can design a project-specific remediation solution; pilot test, install and operate it on site (using our own fleet of specialist plant and equipment); and manage every aspect of operation through to full site clean-up. With a European Centre of Excellence, clients can rest assured we operate at the absolute cutting-edge of remediation design and technology. |

RSK can act as design engineers and client representative, and adopt a lead contractor position, overseeing and managing the delivery of remedial contracts. We can deliver a full remediation contracting service through our fully-owned subsidiary RemedX.
RSK’s remediation team has the expertise and mobile plant licences to offer, among other things:
- In situ and ex situ chemical oxidation
- In situ bio-remediation (enhanced aerobic and anaerobic degradation using a wide variety of proprietary and non-proprietary amendments)
- Ex situ bio-remediation using windrow turning and biopile techniques
- LNAPL and DNAPL recovery (enhanced using vacuum systems and/or steam injection)
- Physical in situ technologies (soil vapour extraction, air sparging and multi-phase extraction)
Innovations
As well as optimising existing technologies, RSK’s remediation team has developed a series of innovative techniques such as:
- High-efficiency Mixflo™ oxygenation for lagoon remediation: this is a patented process combining steam flushing, nutrient injection and multi-phase extraction. It combines nitrification and denitrification in a single reactor and in situ oxidation of chlorinated solvents using potassium permanganate.
- Using molasses as a primary nutrient source to stimulate in situ anaerobic bio-degradation and reduce environments that facilitate in situ dechlorination of volatile organics and reduction/fixation of heavy metals (for example, chromium VI)
- Applying a patented in situ surfactant technology to reduce surface tension of non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPLs) and improve recovery rates through porous and fractured media. Monitoring assistance comes from RSK’s hydrogeological team.

Operations, maintenance and data management
We provide a full range of system operations management and maintenance services designed to maximise system up-time and optimise contaminant recovery rates. The service draws upon the company’s broad field experience and expertise as well as state-of-the-art telemetry and remote sensing technology.
In collaboration with our Geographic Information Systems (GIS) team, we help clients cost-effectively manage the complex datasets necessary for accomplishing environmental analysis using sophisticated database management systems. Electronic data capture improves the efficiency of environmental surveys and material inventories. Data visualisation technology is used to create dynamic analysis and to communicate project results.
