Specialist in Land Condition (SiLC) and other experience differentiators
RSK employs more Specialist in Land Condition (SiLC) accredited staff than any other environmental consultancy in the UK. We have championed what is considered the most rigorous assessment for land condition expertise since it began and are committed to the promotion of SiLC as a yardstick of industry excellence both within and outside our company. Our belief in the accreditation is such that we have made it company policy for any RSK employee with the requisite experience to sit the exams.

RSK supports the SiLC scheme by funding the time and expenses of RSK assessors to mark examinations and undertake the professional interviews. We are also currently helping to update SiLC training materials and we run training courses.

RSK has submitted a proposal to the Remediation Licence Task Force calling for further development of the SiLC scheme so that it can form the platform for brownfield site assessment and remediation self-certification. The National Brownfield Strategy has endorsed the proposal and RSK is working with the EA to see if SiLC can help bolster confidence in brownfield development.

Technical leadership

RSK is widely recognised as being at the vanguard of site investigation and has had its procedures for land acquisition and development adopted by the National House-Building Council to support its Land Quality initiative. We are also actively involved in research in this area in collaboration with, among others, CIRIA, the Soil Guideline Value Task Force, DEFRA's Contaminated Land Forum and the Environment Agency division dealing with the Definition of Waste.
